Update 2021: I recently went back and I'm happy to say that the burger is back to normal! Thanks guys! 5 stars Previous review: Oh my, how far south this place has gotten. I used to enjoy this place but I'm not sure what happened. I give one star for great atmosphere, and another for music. Otherwise, the food quality has dramatically declined. Their burger is no longer unique. In the past, their burger was well seasoned, and had a signature taste, and cooked to perfection, yum! Now, I wouldn't pay $1 for that burger. Their crab cakes, is watered down, lacking in taste, it was a disaster. I usually love dining there with family and friends. We often celebrate birthdays over the years but not anymore. It's a real shame.
The location here is smack dab in the heart of Sarasota. The vibe as you walk buy is inviting and fun, with live music, outdoor seating, and a crowd waiting to be seated makes it easy to assume this is the place to be on a Friday night. My wife and I visited for the first time last night and enjoyed the experience. Music was just right, and our waiter took care of us. On to the food, which is the reason for 4 stars rather than 5. My wife ordered fish tacos, and I ordered a pizza with goat cheese, artichokes, etc. The presentation was decent, but we both thought either dish had barely any flavor. I'll chalk it up to maybe a new chef, and we'll try it again.
What a great atmosphere with great food. Special shout out to our waitress, Alexis, who upon hearing we were from out of town, offered up a variety of places to visit. And even better, wrote us out a list that she brought with the check so we would remember. Such great service.
I had the amazing pleasure of being taken care of by the most spectacular bartender/ server Emily. She was fast, efficient and hilarious. If you ever come here ask for her. She's truly the best.
My boyfriend and I visited on a Tuesday evening. The place was not very busy and there was live music playing. When we tried to order our appetizers, our waitress informed us that they were out of three of the five options on the menu. This would not be the first time something wasn't available, because when I ordered the lamb chops, I was informed they were out of those as well. We ended up ordering a chicken sandwich and grouper with risotto. Unfortunately, the chicken sandwich was not up to par. I've had better from fast food restaurants, and for $15, I would expect something a little better. My side of truffle mashed potatoes was lukewarm at best. The risotto was a bit soupy, but it did hit the spot. Obviously, when you eat outdoors there will be some bugs, but the flies that hounded us for the entirety of our meal were not adding to the enjoyment at Mattison's. I did not find that the quality of food was consistent with the reviews from others on here.
