We stopped over during a long rainy drive, and it's exactly what was needed. The drive in is picturesque, the people were welcoming, and Julia was amazing. After asking her recommendation, I chose the Reuben (with collard greens side) and was not disappointed. 10/10 would recommend. The fried pickle spears and dill ranch were fantastic. My other half loved the Smokey Joe sandwich with chips. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Snook Haven--a little piece of good old Florida just off the Highway! I was finishing my visit with my folks in North Port, and they asked me where I wanted to go for our last meal before we left. I immediately said, "Snook Haven". STUNNING scenery, a live Elvis imitator on the stage and gorgeous dockside dining. The food is good quality tavern fair, the beer is tasty and the wait staff is fun and friendly. They'll happily take pictures of your party with your camera, and you are going to want those pictures. No salad forks, no valet parking, but they have flush toilets now, and you can get a picture of your face while being nipped by a snapper. What else could you ask for??
Snook Haven was quickly added to our “must visit” list before we even arrived in Venice. Locals on the airplane recommended it, passerby’s on the street raved about it, and multiple online sources have it the thumbs up. It did not disappoint! The food was flat out amazing. We had the mac and cheese, river puppies, pulled pork, ribs, brisket, turkey wrap, etc. All were delicious! The staff was super friendly and patient. Our food came out at wrap speed. Excellent service. The atmosphere was also spot on. You can sit outside, inside, waterfront, in AC, not in AC, table service, counter service, etc. Lots of options to pick what is right for you. Maybe my only complaint would be the lack of fries on the menu. Other than that, this place is a must visit and a place we will return to each time when in Venice.
Picnic tables all over the place outside. I dined inside at a booth. Little to no air conditioning inside in 90° humid weather. There was a live band playing on a small outdoor stage upon my arrival. The server was great. With a great attitude. He said he's been there 5 years. I was undecided between fish and chips and pulled pork dinner. Server described the fish that sounded appetizing but he suggested for me to get the BBQ as it was their specialty. So I ordered the pulled pork. I should have ordered the fish and chips although they do not sell french fries. Only chips. The pulled pork was just warm and really wet. The wetness washed away the taste. It's like they keep the pulled pork in watery broth until ordered. Chips were cold and greasy. Baked beans were hot and just okay. Served with a small piece of french bread with some garlic flavored butter slapped on and toasted. Their iced tea is not fresh brewed. It is factory made and dispensed from the tap. This was my first time and probably my last. My check was $17 and change.
Oh my goodness, Fish and Chips (home made potato chips), Texas Brisket sandwich w/ coleslaw and chips, pulled pork platter w/ green beans and well chips. Very yummy! With the pull of possible alligators in the River, this is a must visit. The brownie and pecan pie desert were awesome, next time I will try the peach cobbler. They also offer kayak and canoe rentals.
