The good...easy to park, acoustics are decent. That's it. The bad...seating is terrible with no vertical walkways anywhere. We sat in the middle of the theater, and if we had to get out, at least 30-40 people would have had to stand up so we could get through. I'm not even certain the seating would pass safety code today. Not enough rest rooms. Also difficult to get out of parking lot when show is over. Sarasota could really use an updated venue.
Went to a performance of "Come From Away" with my daughter. Acoustics are very good. Had no trouble seeing or following the players. It was wonderful to be able to see a live show again! We had to present our vaccination cards. Everyone was masked except the performers, of course. We forgot to bring masks, checked in and walked in...then realized everyone inside was masked. I was pleased that the theater personnel did not "police" us; no heavy handed tactics. We were able to go back and get masks from the check in point. I was glad to see these protocols, really. It's the first place I've been to in Florida that took these health measures.
Went last night for the 1st time in a long time. It’s exactly like it was 10 years ago, down to the same seat. The person who greeted us didn’t say hello, she just chided us because we went in on the “wrong” side and we needed to “hustle”. Meanwhile we were 10 minutes early and the show started 5 minutes late. The ballet we saw was really good, I just wish the overall experience was better. My daughter and I both had on really nice dresses, and yea, I look really young, more like her sister, but I’m actually 40. The bigotry was palpable from most of the VW staff. It’s pretty clear they want one type of people in their audience. Which is why the place can’t afford a remodel. Most of the old people they want there don’t stay up that late. Really is too bad for our community. I would much rather go to Florida Studio Theatre, much nicer staff.
Always a great show here. Perfect sized arena that makes each event personal with the artist. I wish the took some rows out to give just a little more room
Our first event at Van Wezel was an enjoyable experience. The Temptations & Four Tops provided a trip back to our youth through a number of familiar tunes. The venue was very nice and we will no doubt return in the future.
